Miriam joined Ford Simey in 1990 specialising in personal injury. She attained First Class Honours in the Law Society Finals in 1992 before being appointed a partner in 1994. In 2006‚ she re-trained in private client work and now heads up the Exeter team. She specialises in Wills‚ Deeds of Variation and tax planning.
Conall joined the firm in 2017, and is a Chartered Legal Executive, having been admitted to the Institute of Legal Executives in 2013. He is also a full member of the Society of Trusts and Estates Practitioners. Prior to joining the firm he worked for ten years in the Private Banking department of one of the big four national banks, administering high net worth and complex estates for their deceased clients. He also worked for a firm of solicitors in Cornwall beforehand. He specialises in Private Client work including Wills, Estate Administration, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Trusts.
Karen joined Ford Simey in 2017, having decided to re-train in private client work. She had worked for a larger regional commercial law firm for 15 years specialising in the defence of professional negligence claims, working for various insurer clients. She qualified firstly as a Chartered Legal Executive in 2007, and then carried on her studies to qualify as a Solicitor in 2009 having achieved a distinction in the Legal Practice Course.
She now specialises in a broad range of work to including advising on and preparing Wills, estate administration, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection matters. Karen continues her studies and is a student member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners.
Naomi studied at Plymouth University and then worked in other industries, before completing her legal studies in London and returning to Devon. Naomi joined Ford Simey as a trainee in 2011 and qualified as a Solicitor in 2013. She specialises in Private Client work including Wills, Estate Administration, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection matters.
Melissa qualified as a Legal Executive in 2008, becoming a Chartered Legal Executive when the Institute of Legal Executives attained Royal Charter in early 2012. She joined Ford Simey in June 2015 and works from our Exmouth office. She specialises in Private Client work including Will drafting, Inheritance Tax planning, estate administration and intestacies, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection. She has worked in firms in Exeter and North Devon and has experience in dealing with estates with an Agricultural element. She is friendly, approachable and provides complex advice to clients in an easy to understand way.
Alison joined the firm in 1991 and has been a Partner since 1998. She has a wide experience of diverse legal areas and has sat on a number of specialist law panels including in family law and litigation. Alison has acted in a number of reported cases heard in both the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
Working from the Sidmouth office, Alison now brings her wealth of experience to seeking solutions in complex family situations and for many elderly clients. She specialises in the preparation of wills‚ powers of attorneys and declarations of trusts over property as well as acting in the administration of estates. Alison also acts as trustee in the management of varied trusts to include trusts for disabled beneficiaries and as attorney or deputy for those unable to manage their own affairs.
Sarah joined the firm in 1994 and is a Partner at our Sidmouth office. She specialises in private client work to include tax efficient Will drafting‚ IHT planning administration of estates, Lasting Powers of Attorney and complex Court of Protection applications. She also acts as an attorney or deputy for clients who are unable to manage their own affairs or need assistance and support in managing their affairs. Sarah has a vast experience of working with clients who are faced with illness, loss and uncertainties for the future and always approaches these issues in an empathic and professional manner.
Tina Kelly (nee Burford) read law at the University of Durham, and qualified as a solicitor in 1991 after training with a large regional firm. She joined the Private Client department of Ford Simey in 1996 where she specialised in providing advice on wills and inheritance tax planning, powers of attorney, the administration of estates and related matters. She became a partner in 2000, and left the firm in 2002 to become a full-time mother. After her career break Tina rejoined Ford Simey in 2014 on a part-time basis as an assistant solicitor. Tina is a technician member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
