Solicitor – Divorce and Finances
Family Team – Sidmouth
Full time (or flexible working considered)
We are looking for an ambitious and capable lawyer to join our busy Sidmouth office, as part of Ford Simey’s well established Family Team. This is an ideal opportunity for a Solicitor wishing to develop and build their career in family law in a beautiful part of the south west.
We are flexible as to level of experience as finding the right person is what matters to us. Applications are therefore welcomed either from recently qualified solicitors (minimum 2 years PQE) or from more experienced practitioners.
You will have your own case load of good quality divorce and finance work. Most of your cases will involve clients going through divorce and financial claims with either a significant pension fund, family business or property element. Children issues can arise as part of these cases, and from time to time these will lead to private Children Act proceedings for child arrangements, specific issues etc. We are also increasingly asked to prepare pre nuptial agreements and advise on the impact of these. We would like you to undertake your own advocacy where appropriate e.g. at preliminary hearings or to represent clients at round table meetings.
You will already have experience of conducting this type of work, a sound academic background and good general knowledge of family law including up to date case law. You will have a commitment to the Resolution Code of Practice in your approach, and awareness of the role of mediation and other methods of family dispute resolution. As well as excellent technical ability, we are looking for a conscientious and personable lawyer who is able to build rapport with clients and support them through their journey – all round good client care is important to us. You will also have commercial awareness when it comes to billing and time management, and an ability to make links across the firm and develop our existing contacts in the local community.
You will be working alongside an experienced matrimonial solicitor and a part time consultant, both based in Sidmouth. If you are recently qualified we will provide supervision and on the job training as you develop your expertise. For more experienced applicants we appreciate that you will wish to work more independently but the support will be there when you need, such as cover if you have a diary clash or if you want to talk through a difficult case or bounce ideas around.
At our Sidmouth office we currently have six fee earners (conveyancing, probate and family) and six support staff. Across the firm as a whole we have four offices with twenty five fee earners including commercial and PI departments at our head office in Exeter. The family solicitors in Sidmouth receive referrals from across the firm to advise clients on divorce and finance.
Sidmouth is a bustling seaside town and a beautiful place to be when the sun comes out! At the Sidmouth office you will be part of a small, welcoming and friendly team. As we are part of a larger firm you will also have wider opportunities to develop and grow with us as your career progresses.
